iProvo Broadweave a Done Deal

Provo's city council voted 4-3 in favor of approving the sale of iProvo to Broadweave last night. Steve Turley stated that he thought process was more important than end result and that the process from the creation of iProvo to the sale was done wrong. Cindy Clark and Sherrie Hall Everett both said that they were concerned that the sale was does very quickly and that they hadn't had enough time to fully digest and understand the sale to be able to approve it.

Now the success or failure of the network is on Broadweave's shoulders. It will be interesting to see how this goes.

Can't believe I can agree with Mr Turley on something iProvo related!

It is interesting to me that Midge Johnson was quoted in the Trib as saying "over my head" and "I've had to rely on our attorneys. They have done a great job fleshing out my concerns." This makes for four councilors who had trouble with this deal in timing and/or scope. I think it just shows the wisdom of when Provo started this process in the 1990s to not hurry. I am disappointed that it was a 4-3 split. I would have hoped for more unity when a city makes a 180 degree switch.

Good luck to Broadweave.

Also, while I know few have commented on the blog here, I have a hunch many more viewed it. I want to thank Jarrod for moderating/stimulating this forum and making a positive difference in the handling of iProvo. It is hard to go out on a limb like he has on some of these issues and take shots from all sides. The public interest would be better served to have more sites like this. In my opinion, Jarrod's work is a fine example of how important "the informed public" can be to proper functioning of democracy.

So a big public thanks to Jarrod for his efforts.
