Why aren't we mad at the legislature?

There's a lot of hand wringing over iProvo and UTOPIA. There is some agreement that one of the reasons for their problems is that these networks can't provide retail services. This is because of a pretty recent Utah state law that was enacted because these two networks were being developed. Between the two networks, a whole lot of the state is affected, I'll say negatively, by this law.

So why aren't we calling out the legislators who made this law? Why aren't we trying to change it as a different means to fix what ails iProvo and UTOPIA?

Just a thought.

The act that passed was a compromise between prohibiting local governments from providing television and telecommunications services and allowing them to still build infrastructure if they determine that it meets their needs. Given aggressive actions by certain members of the legislature (Sen. Stephenson and Rep. Frank come to mind), it's amazing that such a compromise came out. Spanish Fork beat this law by a month and was grandfathered in allowing them to be a retailer. Given the climate of the legislature, I don't think relaxing these restrictions is feasible, especially since anti-UTOPIA laws come up at least every other year.
