Apparently I'm a Shill for Steve Turley

I heard yesterday that there is some talk in city offices that I'm a shill for Steve Turley. That struck me as very funny. I guess it's a nice way to attempt to discount what I have to say.

Steve Turley is my next door neighbor. We have swapped information for a long time about iProvo. I'm close to the service providers and tend to know what's going on with them. He's on city council and has good insight on what's happening politically. We both know things that are helpful for the other, so it's a good symbiotic relationship.

That being said, we disagree a lot. Steve is easy to disagree with. I'm sure that from his point of view, so am I. I expect that he's running as fast as he can away from me, my present actions, and any future actions. And I would like it to be well known that nothing Steve says or does in any way represents me or my opinions.

I have my own opinions and act on my own initiative. Hopefully that's clear.

FUD, such as discounting the source of information, is a way to win an argument without having to debate merits. Scary how effective it usually is.

For years Jarrod and I have been having discussions about iProvo and now I find out he's a shill? Good grief.

But seriously, I don't know Mr. Turley or his politics but if this is some sort of way to dismiss an honest critique, Provo City is on the verge of a blunder. If one has confidence that their solution is the best, they would welcome more light being shed on the subject. But if you are insecure in your decision, you shy away from discourse and discussion. You rush to a quick solution like some "1-800-call-now" ad in an effort to place urgency (in a non-urgent setting) in place of reason.

I have enjoyed discussing iProvo with Jarrod because we don't see eye to eye. But I always come back richer because of it. Unfortunately, it sounds like there are some who fear enrichment. And in the case, it is the citizens of Provo who ultimately lose.
